Carbine Vitals | S7 Tactical/Arkansas Gun Club

Carbine Vitals (day 1) is designed to present students of various experience levels with the essential skills and knowledge required to take them to a high level of proficiency in fighting with a carbine.  Balancing speed and accuracy with respect to tactics and weapons manipulation, Carbine Vitals I is a fast paced mentally and physically demanding course.

Day 2 begins by building upon the core competencies established in Carbine Vitals I through an increased sense of urgency in weapons manipulation and shot delivery with respect to precision and time availability.  We move past static shooting by engaging minds, incorporating the secondary weapon and communication while dealing with the environment and geographics. The course culminates to a final individual event that requires each shooter to employ the techniques learned in the course while experiencing mental and physiological stressors.

  • Presentation from ready position

  • Final event incorporating all skills learned in the course.

 

Day 2

  • Life safety
  • CV-I review
  • Speed and rapid precision
  • Handgun as a secondary weapon
  • Transitioning from primary to secondary
  • Transitioning from secondary back to primary
  • Support side shooting
  • Kneeling position
  • Prone position
  • Supine position
  • Positional problem solving
  • Use of cover
  • Use of cover in buddy/team environment
  • Advancing and regression as it relates to use of cover
  • Final event

Recommended Equipment

  • 800 – 1,000 Rounds of rifle/carbine ammunition
  • 200 – 300 Rounds of handgun ammunition
  • Reliable Rifle or carbine and handgun in a defensive caliber or whatever you’ve got.
  • Outside or inside the waistband quality non-collapsing holster
  • 4 magazines or more/ at least 3 for handguns
  • Pants pockets for mags (or pouches)
  • Sling – One, two, or three-point
  • Dress how your lifestyle would dictate your likely dress for carbine employment.
  • Ear Protection (electronic preferred)/ Eye Protection
  • Recommended: Gloves
  • Firearm lubricant

Handgun Vitals is designed to present students of all experience levels, the skills and knowledge necessary to take them to a high level of proficiency with a defensive handgun.  The shooter will learn to deliver precision at a fast pace while increasing his or her ability to problem solve a defensive use of force situation.

Day 1

Topics Include

  • Life safety as it relates to defensive use of force
  • Grip and standing position
  • Hard sight focus
  • Hard target focus
  • Ready positions for a spherical environment
  • Post engagement scan, actions and communication
  • Gaining rapid precision
  • Drawing from concealment (or OWB)
  • Engagement technique
  • Speed reload
  • Clearing stoppages common to defensive handguns
  • Gaining the advantage
  • Movement to dominant positions

Day 2

Topics Include

  • Life safety as it relates to the armed citizen
  • Review of core defensive shooting fundamentals
  • Strong hand problem solving (one hand manipulations)
  • Protecting a third party
  • Kneeling, prone and supine positions
  • Forward movement
  • Backward movement
  • Strong hand only
  • Fighting from retention
  • Lateral movement
  • Final event

Gear List

  • Good guy evidence, such as CCH permit, purchase permit, LE credentials etc.
  • A handgun chambered for a common defense caliber (.22 is acceptable, but not recommended)
  • A quality (non-collapsing) holster
  • Belt
  • At least 3 magazines or 4 speed loaders/strips for revolver shooters
  • 600-800 rounds
  • Eye protection
  • Hearing protection
  • Baseball style cap

This Handgun Vitals is a handgun training class held in Wichita, KS. It is designed to present students of all experience levels, the skills and knowledge necessary to take them to a high level of proficiency with a defensive handgun.  The shooter will learn to deliver precision at a fast pace while increasing his or her ability to problem solve a defensive use of force situation.
